The café & restaurant 'Zur alten Schule' is located on historic grounds.
In the middle of Callenberg, right next to St. Katharinen Church, lay the old manor of our town. Only a little has been preserved, yet this area forms one of the most historically significant places in the region.
In 1455, the rope ladder for the prince's robbery in Altenburg was made here, in the barn of the old manor. In 1799, this manor burned down largely, and a new one was built on the edge of the village. The Fronfeste, now our main building, was preserved and was used as a school from 1846 to 1887.
This Fronfeste and its historic prison cellar (fun jail food) served as the basis for the experience restaurant that opened in 2000. The horse stable of the old manor, where the rope ladder for the prince's robbery was made, was demolished around 1962.
In 2007, this building was reconstructed according to historical documents and using a few parts of the original structure. It houses our event hall with a fireplace (ideal for weddings and celebrations), the private school museum, and guest rooms.
