This route takes you with a variety of sights into the history of the city and shows you the beauties of our flora and fauna embedded in Glauchau.
The route starts at the hiking information board at Glauchau Train Station, where you can learn about the route guidance. From here, the hiking path follows the green marking towards the city center. The path leads past the train station and Schillerpark, the historic post office building, and to Glauchau Market Square with the historic town hall and carillon made of Meissen porcelain as well as the beautiful bronze fountain. Straight ahead, we now reach the palace square and the Glauchau double castle complex with the two impressive castles Vorder- and Hinterglauchau.
In front of the castle complex, we go down the Mühlberg to Gründelpark, past Gründelteich (with café and boat rental) and further over Albertsthaler Straße to the reservoir, the most popular recreational area in Glauchau. We circle the lake on the north and west side along the dam and pass the Schindmaaser weir through a small forest to Wernsdorf sports field (keep left at the weir). The path then leads up to the church, further to the Mülsener Straße intersection (cross), down to Talgasse and over Feldstraße and Voigtlaider Straße (with lighthouse) up the valley to Scheibenbusch. We keep to the right and walk through the idyllic settlement.
At the upper end of the valley, the green marking leads into Rümpfwald and through it to Thumer Straße (cross) and further to the “Waldweg” coming from the district Voigtlaide. Those who want to take a longer break can take a detour to Voigtlaide. Here, a beautiful playground offers resting opportunities for young and old, and various restaurants provide the chance to refresh.
The hiking trail continues on the right and winds towards 2nd Thurmer Straße. At the shelter, we turn left onto Thurmer Straße, follow it to Forsthausstraße (turn left), which leads us to Forsthaus Glauchau. There you can also stop for a break. At the large crossroads in front of the forester’s house, we take the old “Glauchauer Straße” towards St. Egidien but after about 800 meters turn left into Elise-Schmidt-Weg, leading to Niederlungwitz (take the right forest road). At the large Lungwitzbach bridge (Lobsdorfer Straße), we turn right over the bridge and immediately left onto the path to Obermühle St. Peter. We take a small detour through Niederlungwitz (left over the pedestrian footbridge, right Straße des Friedens), before the path leads us back over Lungwitztalstraße and into the forest.
We now walk along the forest edge until we reach Bergstraße, via which we ascend back into the city. In front of the Intercompany Training Center at the Lungwitzer Straße intersection, we turn left and walk, always keeping right, to the animal enclosure and through it.
After crossing Lungwitzer Straße, the path leads down into the valley through Carolapark to Schlachthofstraße, where we turn right. Shortly after, Erich-Fraaß-Straße (left) and Otto-Schimmel-Straße lead us back to the train station.
For all those not arriving by train, there is an option to park at the Hoffnung parking lot. From here, a pedestrian access leads via Schulplatz and the market passage in 2 minutes directly to the market. Around the market square, there are various restaurants and (ice cream) cafés where you can wonderfully end the day.
