This route takes you through a variety of sights into the history of the city and shows you the beauties of the flora and fauna embedded in Glauchau.
The hike starts at the information board at Glauchau Station, where you can learn about the route guidance. From here, the hiking trail follows the green marking towards the city center. The path leads past the station and Schiller Park, the historic post office building, and the Glauchau market square with the historic town hall and carillon made of Meissen porcelain, as well as the beautiful bronze fountain. Continuing straight ahead, we now reach the castle square and the Glauchau double castle complex with the two remarkable castles, Vorder- and Hinterglauchau.
In front of the castle complex, we go down the Mühlberg to the Gründelpark, past the Gründelteich (with café and boat rental), and further over Albertsthaler Street to the reservoir, the most popular recreation area for Glauchau residents. We circle the lake on the north and west sides on the dam and pass by the Schindmaaser Weir through a small forest to the Wernsdorf sports field (keep left at the weir). The path then leads uphill to the church, continues to the Mülsen Street intersection (crossing), down to Talgasse and up the valley over Feldstraße and Voigtlaider Straße (with lighthouse) to Scheibenbusch. We keep right and walk through the idyllic settlement.
At the upper end of the valley, the green marking leads into the Rümpf Forest and through it to Thumer Street (crossing) and further to the "Waldweg" which comes from the Voigtlaide district. Those who want to take a longer break can take the detour to Voigtlaide. Here, a beautiful playground offers relaxation for young and old, and various restaurants provide opportunities to stop for refreshments.
The hiking trail continues on the right and winds towards the 2nd Thumer Street. At the shelter, we turn left onto Thumer Street, follow it to Forsthausstraße (left turn), which leads us to the Glauchau forester's house. Here too, you can enjoy a nice break. At the large crossroads in front of the forester's house, we take the old "Glauchau Street" towards St. Egidien, but after about 800 meters, turn left onto Elise-Schmidt-Weg, which takes us to Niederlungwitz (walking the forester's road on the right). At the big Lungwitzbach bridge (Lobsdorfer Street), we go right over the bridge and immediately after, left onto the path to Obermühle St. Peter. We take a small detour through Niederlungwitz (left over the footbridge, right into Frieden Street) before the path takes us again via Lungwitztalstraße and into the forest.
We now walk along the forest edge until we reach Bergstraße, which leads back up into the city. In front of the inter-company training center at the Lungwitzer Street intersection, we turn left and walk, always keeping right, to the animal enclosure and through it.
After crossing Lungwitzer Street, the path continues down into the valley through Carolapark to Schlachthofstraße, where we turn right. Shortly after, Erich-Fraaß Street (left) and Otto-Schimmel Street lead us back to the station.
For those not arriving by train, there is the option to park at the Hoffnung parking lot. From here, a pedestrian access leads through the school square and market passage to the market square in 2 minutes. Around the market square, there are various restaurants and (ice cream) cafés where you can wonderfully end the day.
