The Daetz Centre is located at the heart of Saxony between Zwickau and Chemnitz. Here tucked away in the Castle Palace in Lichtenstein, you will find one of the most unusual exhibitions in Germany: “Masterpieces in wood” presents more than 550 works of art from five continents united by the material wood and the results of carving craftsmanship with outstanding artistic quality. The exhibits encourage you to embark on an incomparable discovery tour – which is varied, informative and full of surprises. Wood comes to life at the Daetz Centre through fairy tales, myths and stories. Supplemented by the audio-guide system, films, photos and typical national music, the masterpieces from 35 countries provide a glimpse of familiar and unfamiliar cultures. Varied thematic guided tours, special temporary exhibitions like this year’s new Christmas exhibition entitled “Different countries, different mangers”, events linked to the subject of wood and symposia and exhibition presentations complete the programme.
